Popped back to this #sevenoaks garden we planted last December and was delighted to see heaps of colour! We often need to disguise or soften kids play frames or trampolines - here we planted a neat beech hedge and then used the client’s bench and some planting to take the focus. It works! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #godstone #westerham @mlynchlandscapes
Viburnum plicatum looking great and being planted today in this lovely #limpsfield garden. This is one of my go to shrubs as it can light up a shady area and make a lovely focal point. I was pleased to see lots of them at #rhschelsea last week - they do sit nicely in a wilder/woodland scheme #oxted #limpsfieldchart #godstone #sevenoaksmums
It’s World Bee Day today so here’s a pic taken earlier this week - this bee found us almost as soon as we planted this verge. Amazing! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #darenth #sevenoaksmums #worldbeeday #worldbeeday2022
Popped back to check on the planting in this #oxted garden we completed in February. This was a damp, shady (muddy) bank leading to a lovely new summer house, and quite frankly it was letting the side down! We designed the steps (thank you @fraserlandscapesltd for an expert build) and the planting which is already establishing beautifully. Hidden fire pit area top left too! #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #godstone #sevenoaksmums
Day 2 of planting complete - the Nepeta stole the show today!! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #dartford #darenth #sevenoaksmums
Swathes of colourful perennials and grasses, with a ‘wildflower’ brief from the client. Day 1 today - planting the structure plants. Some gorgeous Stipa gigantea run through the middle of the bank, then swathes of perennials and grasses, a few shrubs and some self-seeders too. There will be a real hit of colour this summer - then it will be lovely to see this develop and mature. A wildflower meadow is actually a lot harder to create than simply chucking some seeds around. This is the more achievable alternative! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #dartford #darenth
Just love this little composition we planted last year at the base of this sunny wall. Wisteria is getting established - meanwhile the Libertia is in flower, Euphorbia just going over, Nepeta just beginning. Perovskia and Sedum a bit later on. Contrasting shapes and foliage. Sometimes the non-formal areas of the garden are the most charming #godstone #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #westerham #sevenoaksmums
Spotted on a dog walk today - this Box (Buxus) hedge in #limpsfield high street is absolutely covered in box moth caterpillars. Such a shame to lose an established hedge. We haven’t planted any Box for a couple of years now - balls tend to be Pittosporum Golf Ball and hedges might be Lonicera nitida or perhaps Euonymus japonicus. Do be vigilant if you have Box in your garden #oxted #limpsfieldchart
No Mow May - let’s do this! I’m a firm believer that lawns exist to show off the planting. Oh and to play and relax on of course. As Monty Don says ‘lawns just need to be green’ - with neat edges. Stripes are unnecessary. And lawns definitely don’t need to be endlessly sprayed with chemicals - we all need to do our bit for the bees and other pollinators. So this May I’m going to try not mowing this lawn and see what happens. Why not give it a go?! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Prep work complete in this #oxted garden - now the fun of setting out and planting can begin. The magnificent Acer takes centre stage but now has more light (2 large conifers removed), a better shape and some beautiful underplanting.
Lovely to pop back only a week after planting and see everything settling in nicely in this #oxted garden. Building work at the end of this garden has been beautifully screened - hedging, multi-stem birch trees, newly created beds full of perennials and grasses, plus some gorgeous specimen trees. A really exciting transformation. #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
This little Cercis is clearly very happy in a pot, the bare stems are covered in pink flowers which have lasted for weeks. This is the first glimpse of the garden that you see as you enter the house, so pots get moved around and positioned in this spot when looking good. Note also the cushions are out which means it will definitely rain soon! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Planting plan for next weeks project in Icehouse Wood #oxted . When you commission us to design your planting we produce a detailed plant-by-plant plan, and lots of pics (which are a bit more helpful than a list of Latin plant names!) We choose plants which are suitable for the soil and the light so that they have the best chance of success. We also use our expertise to ensure your garden looks good all year round using interesting evergreens and pops of colour. #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Mood board - work in progress for a new commercial project which we will design and plant. Naturalistic planting - swathes of ‘wilder’ perennials and grasses, perfect for the poor soil and full sun. Should provide a wonderful display this summer and then begin to evolve as the self seeders do their thing. Super exciting! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Pretty tulip combo - Queen of the Night and Spring Green - providing some lovely pops of colour as the garden begins to get going. Bulbs in pots are easy to do, stash them out of sight (keep the squirrels off with wire) and then bring out when they’re looking fab! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
How to soften a shady corner - plus a couple more freshly planted pots. Use a mix of evergreens and perennials to give year-round interest #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Popped back to check on this Neb Lane #oxted garden we planted in February and really pleased to see how well the plants are establishing. Cherry trees in full bloom (Prunus amanagowa) are bringing some height to balance out the mature trees #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
No pressure guys but there are no spare slabs so don’t mess it up! Irrigation channels being expertly installed in this #oxted garden by @fraserlandscapesltd just in time to water the new plants in this warm weather #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
We planted this #oxted garden last Spring and it has been beautifully maintained and loved. Delighted to sneak a peek this week and see it gently waking up - Euphorbias and Hellebores providing the colour until the 3 Prunus multi stems provide their dazzling white display #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Working on a design for this #oxted garden - clearly this magnificent Magnolia will be staying! #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
These 2 olive trees will provide a gentle partition between the family garden and the home office. The planters are a recent discovery, picking up the soft greys and greens of the foliage and the lovely old stone #godstone #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
A perfect example of why early spring flowers are so important. This little fella sat on this Daphne flower for a good hour today! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #sevenoaksmums
A front driveway garden in #oxted we completed last week. Already the plants are off to a great start, this ornamental cherry tree will be full of spring blossom soon #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #sevenoaksmums @fraserlandscapesltd
Sorting the soil and then re-planting this sunny garden in Quarry Road #oxted today. The builders had planted into heavy clay (and rubble) when the house build was complete, and the poor plants had struggled. Looking much healthier now, plenty of pretty evergreens and pops of colour #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #sevenoaksmums
Phew - it works! That moment when you switch on the irrigation and wait for the drips. We fit irrigation in most of our planting jobs - it ensures the plants get off to a great start and means clients can spend less time watering their gardens and more time enjoying them. (Drip lines are covered with a woodchip mulch so are not visible) #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Work in progress! Transformation of this #oxted rockery is well underway and should be in full bloom by this summer. Perennials, grasses, shrubs and bulbs will give year round colour and interest #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
The sun came out today and lit up the Acers, swathes of Cornus and multi-stem Silver Birch we have been busily planting in this #oxted garden. Hard to capture on a phone camera but they were absolutely glowing! #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Just finished planting and irrigating this Winter border in #limpsfield. The green Cornus give instant presence, and the white Birch trees look stunning against the dark green hedge. Now is the perfect time to plan your planting projects so please get in touch if you are thinking of refreshing your garden next Spring #oxted #oxtedsurrey #sevenoaks #sevenoaksmums #godstone #limpsfieldchart
Love the berries on this Callicarpa bod. Profusion - spotted in a garden we planted in Spring. Clearly loving life and lighting up this shady corner with these amazing berries. We try really hard to ensure all of the gardens we design have some unique ‘wow’ moments through the year #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #sevenoaks #woldingham
I first saw Nerines in Stinson Beach, California and I wondered what these ‘pink agapanthus’ were?! Finally a handful have flowered in my garden - in a pot against a sunny, west facing wall. A little reminder of a very special place #stinsonbeach #limpsfield #oxted #limpsfieldchart
Pennisetum Hameln - you just have to run your fingers through the fluffy seed heads. We tend to use this in mixed planting schemes in a sunny, sheltered spot - but here at @wakehurst_kew they are planted en masse and look wonderful #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Setting out this #limpsfield project today. There’s something lovely about a bed which can be viewed from all sides - but simply putting the taller plants at the back doesn’t work! Here we will have some height and balance from a few equally spaced, taller grasses, and then groups of colourful perennials woven through the bed. Agapanthus, Verbena bonariensis, Helenium, Astrantia, Sanguisorba,, Euphorbia, Libertia and Alchemilla mollis. It will certainly bring the wow factor to this established garden #oxted #limpsfieldchart
We designed this terrace for a gently sloping, south facing garden in #oxted and it’s the perfect spot to unwind and catch the last of the evening light. @fraserlandscapesltd #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Perennials - this is mid August when you would expect the garden to be looking good. Swipe for mid September - still looking remarkably colourful - and even mid October (3rd pic) there’s still a lovely presence as blooms are fading. A well planned garden gives interest and colour all year round and perennials bring the wow! #oxted #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
Butterfly Bank - the brief was to attract as many butterflies and moths to this #oxted garden. So we have planted a range of shrubs and colourful perennials which should provide a rich source of food and nectar all year round. Next spring this bank will be covered in colour and hopefully butterflies! #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
The existing patio in this #oxted garden was shady and narrow, not to mention the wobbly steps up to the garden! We have created a great new space for the family to relax plus a lovely cooking and dining area, all softened by planting. The corten steel water feature is just beginning to get its colour, complementing beautifully the lovely brickwork (thank you @fraserlandscapesltd ) and the Carex test. Prairie Fire (spiky evergreen grass). More pics to follow as the planting matures. #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
It’s all about the PREP! Assessing the light and soil, marking out, turf cutting lifting and disposal, rotavating, pulling out stones, digging over, raking, adding compost, and setting up irrigation. We are planning a hot border here to bring some drama and colour to this lovely #limpsfield garden, but first we must prepare the ground so that the plants we select will thrive. Now is a great time to plant as roots can establish while the ground is still fairly warm and then things can really get going next Spring #oxted #limpsfieldchart
Lovely to visit this #oxted garden we designed and planted in May looking so full and established. This long border is still looking great in mid October! #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart #godstone #sevenoaks @fraserlandscapesltd
Today we finished the planting of this lovely garden in Gresham Road #oxted and the muddy planting plan tells the story of the weather we have endured! Turf is next, and then we will post some amazing Before and After pics #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart @fraserlandscapesltd
Woodland project in #oxted is filling out nicely. This white Dicentra can be tricky to establish but is clearly loving the damp partial shade conditions. Worth trying as it flowers for months on end #limpsfield #limpsfieldchart
